Bemerkt er den Rauch hinter'm Hügl sogleich.
Er fängt an zu rennen, die Sorge ist groß
Was ist passiert, was ist hier los?

Die Ernte war mager, das Jahr war sehr schlecht,

Es wurde schnell Abend die Stimmung war gut.

Die Barden die standen zu Dutzenden an,
Wollten an ihren Teil des Festmahls heran.

Ansgar stand hinten, niemand lieh ihm das Ohr,
Da fasste er Mut und drängte sich vor.
Er stand vor der Runde mit stolzem Gesicht,
Des Grafen Gedanken die kannte er nicht.

Er sang von der Dürre, der Sommersglut,
Appelliert an des Grafen Edelmut.
Er bat seinen Bruder und die Freunde zurück,
Dafür wünscht er dem Grafen viel Segen und Glück

Der Graf war erbost, das passte ihm nicht.
"Schafft diesen Lumpen sofort aus der Sicht!
Doch soll er auch wissen, was ich von ihm hielt:
Brecht ihm Finger und Arme, dass er nie mehr spielt!"

Er kam in den Kerker er wollte nicht mehr.
"Warum macht Gott uns das Leben so schwer?"
Doch dann kamen Freunde in höchster Not.
Ein mutiger Barde entriß ihn dem Tod.

Sie schienten die Knochen und fütterten ihn,
Wartend auf die Zeit in der es gut war zu flieh'n.
Und Ansgar entkam, er hatte großes entdeckt,
Den Plan seiner Rache im Verließ ausgeheckt.

Ansgar kam wieder in dieser Nacht,
Die zerbrochene Laute hat er mitgebracht.
Der Himmel war schwarz wie geronnenes Blut,
Ein letzter Gruß der Sonne Abendrot.

Er sang von seinem Zorn, von Hass und Gewalt,
Die Wachen überkam ein Grausen recht bald.
Doch Ansgar genoss sein schauriges Spiel,
Noch mehr als vom Himmel das Feuer fiel!
